EACH year the Boher calendar showcases fun, faith, service and friendship, team effort and individual achievements, a rich heritage and building for the future - all things that make Boher a wonderful place to live. In addition to highlighting all these marvelous aspects of Boher parish life, this year’s edition has a truly global feel. Not only does the Boher calendar find its way to over 20 countries worldwide each year, but, even before launch night, the 2025 calendar had already found its way to Scarborough beach in Perth, in the suitcase of local man, Brendan Quirke, who is visiting his daughters, Máire and Róisín, and his granddaughter, Sinéad, in Australia. He sent a photograph back to Boher to prove it. In addition, this year’s calendar features some truly remarkable achievements by Boher people in a global context. Firstly, we had rower, Tiarnán O’Donnell, who represented Ireland at the Paris Paralympics, while, Sean Quirke, represented Ireland in the World Masters Mountain Running Championship in the Spanish Pyrenees, where he won a bronze medal and was the first home of the five Irish participants in the M45 17K race. Earlier this year, Tiarnán was presented with an award on behalf of the people of Boher in recognition of his fantastic achievements and the launch night saw Sean’s turn. His award was presented by Alice O’Connor who remarked that he was a credit to himself, his family, his parish and his country. It was fitting that Alice presented the award as the families have been friends and neighbours for three generations and, perhaps, even more fittingly, Alice was the midwife who brought Sean into this world. The calendar also paid tribute to Dr Patricia Humphreys, who sadly died in 2024 in her 99th year, and also her late husband, Chris, who was a pilot in his day. Pat O’Connell, chairman of Boher Community Development Association, remarked that they would have been very proud of their granddaughter, Olivia, who is the person behind “Athena,” a mobile
