LIMERICK motorists are being urged to exercise extra caution on the roads today as soaring temperatures have caused sections of the city's and county's road network to become hazardous.

Limerick City and County Council has issued the following statement:

“Due to the recent high temperature’s sections of the Regional and Local Road network across Limerick city and county are experiencing bitumen bleeding where binder material rises to the road surface.

“This can result in reduced skid resistance particularly for motorcycles, cyclists and vehicles braking or carrying out turning manoeuvres.”

Road users are advised to: Reduce speed and drive to the prevailing road conditions.

Increase stopping distances. No tailgating, keep a safe distance behind vehicles.

Take extra care when braking, cornering, and approaching junctions.

Motorcyclists and cyclists should exercise particular caution on affected roads.

Limerick City and County Council is monitoring conditions and will undertake remedial measures where required. Please drive with care and allow extra time for your journey.
