WATCH: 100 year-old Limerick woman delights with trad performance

TRADITIONAL IRISH musician and proud Limerick woman Peig Ryan proved that age is just a number as she played a ditty at the nursing home where she resides.

The 100 year-old resident of St Anthony's in Pallasgreen performed Peg Ryan's Polka (The Kerry Polka) as part of a special broadcast for Nursing Homes Week 2023.

Over 100 nursing home residents are taking part in performances as part of the national programme and Peig was one of the talented musicians showing off her musical ability.

Peig is known by musicians far and wide after being instrumental in founding the Murroe branch of Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann in 1972, which now bears her name.

Many musicians trace their talent to Peig’s nurturing and guidance. Peig’s musical ability is reflected in her mastery of the flute, whistle and concertina and in her ability to sing and write music, songs and poetry.
