WATCH: St Patrick lets Bruff down as giant snake slithers through the town

ST PATRICK (Mike Twomey) led the Bruff parade in a convertible Mercedes Benz but he might be fired next year as a giant snake slithered up the street in his wake!

Bruff Scouts used the initiative the group is known for by creating a giant lime green python.

"St Patrick is as popular as ever and it's a good excuse for a few pints!" smiled Mr Twomey.

The Scouts were one of many clubs and organisations from Bruff and surrounding parishes to take part in the parade. The all conquering Bruff GAA and Camogie Clubs; An Bru AFC; Knockainey GAA, Ladies Gaelic Football and Camogie Clubs; Knockainey AFC; Holycross AFC; Bruff RFC; Dromin Athlacca Banogue GAA; Morning Star Ladybirds; Bruff Girl Guides; Ballybricken Scouts and more were all out in force.

A sun shower commenced just as the parade commenced after 2.30pm but thankfully quickly blew over.placeholder image

The local Ukrainian community took part and thanked Bruff for their kindness to them. One little boy wearing military fatigues and riding a mini-bike had a sign saying, "Hasta la Vista, Putin".

Much larger motorbikes thronged the Main Street as did an array of vintage and modern agricultural machinery.

Large crowds came out to view the parade, including sisters Robyn, aged 10, and Paige, five, from Bruree, had their faces painted with the tricolour and festive headpieces. Cousins Lottie Purcell, Zoe Murphy and Maisie Purcell were all dressed to impress in green dresses but it is safe to say their granny Deirdre Madigan stole the show in her Irish curly wig!

The spirit of St Patrick's Day was alive and well in Bruff apart from the giant snake.
