West Limerick Sports Complex looks to the future with development plans

THE WEST Limerick Sports Complex (WLSC) has hailed its information nights on future developments in Newcastle West as a “great success”.
The development of the WLSC will take place in two phases. The first involves the purchase of a two-acre site and phase two will see the development of the current facilities in the sports complex into a regional centre.
The information nights provided members of the public with information about the many successes WLSC has achieved since becoming a not-for-profit social enterprise in 2017 - including increases in membership numbers.
The increasing demand and the need to expand the sports complex was also emphasised.
Mayor Francis Foley, who attended one of the information nights, said: “I cannot overstate the significance of providing West Limerick communities with access to sports facilities, particularly in this case a swimming pool, which are in severely short supply. I support this wholeheartedly and I urge other stakeholders and the community to get behind it and support it.”
To complete the purchase, WLSC representatives outlined that additional funding will be required. This will require support from the local authority as well as local fundraising in the community.
Members of the public can support the project by signing the petition, online at www.wlsc.ie or the paper version which is available at WLSC’s reception area.
They can also do so by supporting upcoming fundraising activities.
