The video competition encourages students to ‘capture the essence of community pride’

LIMERICK Enterprise Development Partnership (LEDP) has announced the winners of its “Community Pride” Video Competition.

St Mary’s NS, King’s Island, and Thomond Primary School, Ballynanty, have both been deemed the winners.

Each school has received €2,000 towards IT equipment, while “highly commended” submissions from Le Chéile NS, Galvone, and Scoil Iosagain CBS, Sexton Street, earned the schools €500 each.

The competition asked students, supported by their teachers, to create a three minute video on the topic of community pride: “Whether highlighting local landmarks, sharing stories of community heroes, or showcasing community events and clubs, students had the opportunity to tell their own unique stories.”

Students from Thomond Primary School used their video to thank the people and facilities of their community, while St Mary’s NS gave us a tour of their school and surrounding area in their video.

Sinéad Toomey, principal of Thomond Primary School said that they are “immensely proud” of their winning students. “The video is a testament to the talent, creativity, and deep sense of community that our students possess,” she added.

Niall O’Callaghan, chief executive of LEDP explained that “the winning entries stood out for their originality, storytelling, and technical excellence”. He thanked the schools for their efforts, saying that “it was obvious there was a huge amount of work put into creating these videos and it certainly made our job in judging the results incredibly difficult!”.

LEDP organised the competition as part of its 25th anniversary programme of events, and was open to all DEIS primary schools across Limerick City and County.

Given the success of this year’s competition, LEDP plans to make the Community Pride Video Competition an annual event.

The winning videos are now showcased on LEDP’s website.
