Work continues to reduce water leakage in Limerick

JUST over six kilometres of water mains are set to be replaced by Uisce Éireann to drive down leakage across the county and improve the water supply to homes and businesses.
Working with Limerick City and County Council, they have prioritised the replacements across the Dromcollogher-Broadford area.
According to Uisce Éireann, replacing these old, damaged pipes with new, modern pipework will reduce the instances of bursts, outages, and low-pressure affecting customers in the area, and deliver cost savings by providing improved water network operations that will require less maintenance into the future.
Highlighting the importance of these upgrades, Gerry O’Donnell, Leakage Reduction Programme Regional Lead with Uisce Éireann said: “Replacing these old pipes is a first step in tackling low water pressure, bursts, and leakage issues which have been affecting homes and businesses in Dromcollogher-Broadford. The new pipes will not only reduce the number of water interruptions but will provide security of supply for generations of local people.”
In 2018, the rate of leakage nationally was 46% and by the end of 2021 it was reduced to 38%. Over 2km of new water mains have already been installed since November 2022
