THE WORK of five Limerick social enterprises has been championed as part of a detailed impact report on the importance of funding.

A spotlight has been shone on some of the social enterprises in Limerick supported by Rethink Ireland under their Social Enterprise Development Fund.

These include local groups: St Gabriel’s, St. Gabriel's Orthotic Service, The Urban Co-op, jumpAgrade, and The Health Hub.

The Social Enterprise Development Fund was created in 2018, in partnership with Local Authorities Ireland and funded by IPB Insurance and the Department of Rural and Community Development via the Dormant Accounts Fund.

The goal was to find and back the best social enterprises in Ireland by making cash grants and strategic business support available to selected awardees, particularly in under-represented communities.

Nationally, the Fund has supported 112 social enterprises and created 209 jobs and succeeded in delivering services to over 270,000 people throughout Ireland and mobilised 16,507 volunteers.

Social enterprises based in Limerick are being encouraged to apply for future funding, with applications now open.

Chief Executive of Limerick City and County Council Pat Daly said that the funds will focus on providing vital supports to early-stage social enterprises in Limerick and pave a clear pathway for those looking to build their businesses.

“This will deliver real and meaningful change to each of the organisations involved and Ireland’s social enterprise sector as a whole."

Applications are open until March 3, and can be found on Rethink Ireland’s website.
