IT’S A sure sign that Christmas is nearly upon us when Ceapach Mhór appears on the shelves of the Centra shop in Cappamore and in various business premises in the adjoining Limerick villages.

This year’s publication was launched in Dwyer’s pub, in Cappamore on Wednesday, December 6.

The book is divided into sections and one of the sections deals with historical events.

This year the book commemorates 100 years since the end of the Irish Civil War as well as the centenary anniversary of Ireland joining the League of Nations and W B Yeats receiving the Nobel prize for Literature.

The first part of the book is a tribute to the late Fr Seamus Ryan, pastor, sportsman, and family man.

He fulfilled each of these roles with distinction and his nephew Liam O’Mahoney launched the book last Wednesday.

All those who died during the year are remembered and obituaries are included for those whose family submitted one.

Special celebratory events, baptisms, communions, confirmations, weddings and anniversaries are also mentioned.

Pieces by and about local people form a sizable portion of the book, and many pictures are also included.

Most clubs and organizations have chronicled the events of their year as have the local schools.

A section, bygone days, which is made up of mostly photos, brings the reader back to another time.

The book costs €10 and is available to buy locally.

It is a perfect Christmas present for those living both home and away.
