Young woman fined for illegally squatting at County Limerick property

The woman appeared before Kilmallock District Court
A YOUNG woman who pleaded guilty to occupying a property while not being a tenant has been fined €100 and given three months to pay.
Rebecca Conroy of Glenanaar, Ardpatrick, County Limerick appeared before Kilmallock District Court after being arrested at a property in Ballylanders on February 18 of this year.
Inspector Barry Manton told the court that Ms Conroy had been asked to leave the property on previous occasions by gardaí, but that she has “now vacated the premises.”
The court heard that the 21-year-old woman has three previous convictions, relating to road traffic offences.
Representing Ms Conroy, barrister Donal Cronin BL said that his client’s guilty plea is “helpful in a case such as this, which is unusual to be before the courts.”
He said that Ms Conroy was unemployed at the time and was in “difficulty in terms of securing accommodation. She did not have permission to be there and failed to vacate the property when directed by gardaí.”
Mr Cronin added that there was no damage to the property, which was confirmed by the inspector.
The court heard that Ms Conroy is unemployed at the moment and in receipt of a social welfare payment.
Judge Patricia Harney imposed a €100 fine and gave Ms Conroy three months to pay.
