Anger over delay in delivering CCTV facility to Tipperary towns and villages

The long delays involved in securing a CCTV security service for towns and villages throughout Tipperary are causing huge frustration.
Members of the Tipperary Joint Policing Committee, again, registered their annoyance at the delays in providing the service.
Marie Cox, administrative officer gave the members of the committee an update on the implementation of the scheme at their June meeting.
APPROVAL
Elected representatives were told that approval had finally been given for CCTV in Burgess, Cooleens and Birdhill.
They were told that the committee was still waiting for a reply from the Garda Commissioner concerning proposed CCTV schemes in Fethard, Littleton, Nenagh and Clonmel.
Chairman Cllr Noel Coonan said there was a lot of frustration among volunteer groups in communities throughout Tipperary at the delay in approval for CCTV schemes.
Cllr Coonan said it was disgraceful what these volunteer groups had experienced over the last four years over the long delays in providing CCTV services in towns and villages.
COLLAPSE
He insisted that the schemes should be forgotten about or signed off on and allowed proceed.
Chief Superintendent Colm O’Sullivan told Cllr Coonan that the CCTV schemes would not be forgotten about.
“It will not be forgotten. If it is not done properly the schemes would collapse,” said Chief Superintendent O’Sullivan.
DATA PROTECTION
Cllr Coonnan said the CCTV project had met with one problem after another.
Chief Superintendent O’Sullivan said that the matter was out of his hands. He told the meeting that the issues concerned involved data protection procedure and those issues had to be finalised before CCTV schemes could be signed off on.
Chief Superintendent O’Sullivan said the issues that were outstanding had to be dealt with properly otherwise the schemes would collapse.
