Another successful day on the water for these rowers from Tipperary

Clonmel Rowing Club was among the medals at Skibbereeen Regatta
The Irish University Championships were held at the NRC (National Rowing Centre)and a gaggle of Clonmel rowers including Daire Lynch, Laura Meehan, Shauna Mitten and James Hurley represented their various academic institutions.
Daire Lynch was rowing for UCD and he was involved in three winning crews - the coxless pair, the coxless four and the big one, the eight.
There’s not much room left on the sideboard in the Lynch house for all the trophies, but I am sure that they will stack them up somewhere.
On Saturday and Sunday Clonmel Rowing Club were still at the NRC for the Skibbereen Regatta.
On the first day racing was delayed for an hour due to fog, but when it cleared we had beautiful conditions for rowing and the NRC can rival any of the top venues around the world for rowing.
The masters 1x was one of the first events and Paul Nugent had an impressive win over his three opponents. Later, Paul’s son Gerald was in the UG boat that won the Intermediate 4+.
The Clonmel juniors had another successful day on the water. In at the deep end in the Grand League format (it’s complicated) were Cian Mellerick and Rory Keeley in the men’s J182x.
They were drawn against Olympic gold medallist Fintan McCarthy and European champion Ronan Byrne.
The boys acquitted themselves well and their time was good enough to claim third place in the J18 2x.
Kate Meehan and Siofra O’Loughlin also finished in third place in the women’s 2x and Kate had another podium finish in the singles, so keep up the good work.
Sam Fleming continues to make steady progress in the scull, finishing third in the Club 1 1x.
Wins came for Anna Kiely in Club 2 1x, and the men’s Club 2 4x+ and J14 1x for Edward Wall.
Millie Crean was second in the J15 1x, followed by Kate Fogarty and Sofia Lenehan.
The standard of competition from the Northern crews is very hot and the Clonmel men’s J18 A 4x- came third to Enniskillen and Methodist College Belfast.
There was also a good win for the Clonmel mixed masters 4+.
Clonmel’s next event is the Limerick Regatta on Saturday April 26.
