Gardaí received a report of an alleged public order incident that is said to have occurred in Tipperary Town on Saturday

Tipperary gardaí are currently conducting enquires into reports of an alleged public order incident that is said to have occurred in Tipperary Town on Saturday night.

A local mother described a terrifying experience after being approached by a “drunk man” while sitting in her car with her two children in Tipperary Town.

The incident happened on Saturday night last as the woman and her partner were returning home.

The woman, whose post was shared on the Tipp Town community page, explained that her partner had gone to open the house door when a man from across the road came over after seeing her in the car.

The man repeatedly asked her to open the window of the car and refused to leave her alone. She rang her partner to come back, and the man told her to “shhhh”.He only moved away when he saw her partner returning.

The woman said the ordeal was frightening. The man is described as tall and heavy, with dark hair and a bit of a beard. He was wearing jeans, a striped top, and a jacket.

People are encouraged to call gardaí when such incidents occur and many people have been reacting to the claims on social media.

Meanwhile, in a separate incident, a local woman has expressed her gratitude to three men who came to her assistance on the Main Road in Tipperary Town at around 8.40pm on Saturday night.

In a statement, gardaí said: “Gardaí received a report of an alleged public order incident that is said to have occurred in Tipperary Town on Saturday 16th of August 2025 at approximately 8.45pm.

"Gardaí are currently conducting enquires into this reported incident. Anyone with any information or who may have witnessed any incident on Main Street, Tipp Town at that time are asked to contact gardaí at Tipp Town Garda Station on 062 80670.”

The woman said she had been followed and harassed by a “drunk man” who shoved her into a shop wall. The same man had earlier been harassing another young woman, who managed to run away before he set his sights on her, the post on the Tipp Town community page claims.

The woman described the incident as “really scary” and said she was relieved when the three men immediately stepped in to help her.

“I just want to say a massive thank you,” she said.

“You didn’t hesitate to step in and make sure I was okay, and I’m so, so grateful.

“I don’t know who you are, but if this somehow reaches you – thank you from the bottom of my heart. You honestly turned a horrible situation around.”
