Shamróg Bistro in Tipperary town has been a local favourite since the start of the millennium

On Friday morning, May 1, Shamróg Bistro in Tipperary town announced on social media that they would be closing their doors at the end of the month after 26 years of service.

The restaurant, located on Davis street in Tipp town, is a family business run by husband and wife duo Pat and Breda . The two have announced that they will be retiring from the business this month and thanked their families, friends and loyal customers for all their support over the years.

In a post on social media they wrote:

"Dear valued customers, we wish to inform you that, after 26 years of service, we have made the decision to retire from Shamrog.

"Our doors will close permanently on Sunday, May 31st. We kindly remind those with outstanding vouchers to redeem them before this date.

"We would like to extend our sincerest gratitude to our loyal customers for their support over the years, which has contributed significantly to our success.

"We also fondly remember those who are no longer with us. The increasing costs over the past two years have expedited our decision to retire.

Customers will be sad to see them go but many have already taken to social media to wish them happiness in their retirement:

"Happy retirement Pat and Breda! What a loss to the town!"
