A second IPAS centre for Thurles was never in the works

A second IPAS centre for Thurles was never in the works.

On Friday night, Cllr Jim Ryan posted to his social media outling plans made for a second centre for international protection applicants to be set up on Friar St, Thurles.

Since then, Cllr Ryan has confirmed on social media that these plans were never meant to happen.

He said: "Owners of Friar Street property in Thurles state that their building will not be used as an IPAS centre and was never intended to be in the first place. Big relief on double for Thurles tonight."

This news comes following the withdrawal of the application for an IPAS centre to be set up on Mitchell Street, Thurles.

The scheduled meeting set to be held regarding IPAS centres in Thurles on Thursday, March 27, has now been cancelled.
