CAMOGIE: FBD Insurance Intermediate Quarter Finals throw up cracking encounters

Some tense games were played in this championship at the weekend. The games were close and dogged with a lot at stake as the championship is wide open. Here are the match summaries:
Moneygall 3-08 Newport Ballinahinch 2-04
Moneygall had 7 points to spare in the end against Newport Ballinahinch in an exciting encounter in Moneygall on Saturday afternoon. Shauna Curtin had Newports first half goal while Edwina King goaled for Moneygall just before the break to give them a 1-06 to 1-03 lead at half time.
An early second half goal from Emma Flanagan meant the sides were level before Mairead Teehan responded with a well taken goal to give last year’s eaten finalists the advantage. With the clock ticking down Caitlyn Treacy wrapped up the result with Moneygall’s third goal and they marched onto a county semi final thanks to a 7 point victory
Moycarkey Borris 0-23 Toomevara 2-08
Sarah Corcoran led the way for Moycarkey Borris in their win over Toomevara in the FBD Insurance Intermediate quarter final. 8 points from play on top of 8 frees was phenomenal scoring once again from the Tipperary minor captain.
Kate Ralph also impressed for the 2023 Junior A champions with 4 points from play while Maria Kinane was very solid throughout the hour in defence. Toomevara worked hard throughout but missed two many scoring chances to find themselves down 7 points at half time.
They came out fighting in the second half with both Éimhear Troy and Eileen Gleeson finding the back of the net. But it wasn't enough against a very strong Moycarkey Borris team as they ran out comfortable winners.
Cahir 2-10 Nenagh Eire Og 1-06
Cahir are through to a county semi final after a hard fought victory over Nenagh Eire Og in Duneske on Saturday evening. With a strong wind and wet conditions in the first half to contend with the score at the break was even with 1 - 5 each. Cahir pulled away in the second half with three quick points in succession.
Excellent work from Aoife Corcoran Sara Finnane and Emma Buckley only allowed Nenagh to put 1 point on the score board in the second half. It was a busy week for the Nenagh Eire Og team as they played Toomevara in the final re-fixed group match om Tuesday recording their first championship win in 3 years.
The win lifted the Nenagh spirist and they had a quick 4 day turnaround for the quarter final against Cahir. A slow start by Nenagh Éire Óg saw Cahir race into a 1-4 to 0-1 lead after 10 minutes. Cahir’s goal coming from the ever reliable Carol Casey. Nenagh though finished the half strong.
A long-range free from Zoey Gratton which was deflected into the net was followed by some great points to make it 1-5 each at half time. However, playing into a stiff breeze in the second half Nenagh began to struggle and ran out of scoring options while Cahir’s Rosin Howard continued to cause trouble for Toome’s defence as she finished with 7 points on total.
