The Thurles-Templemore Municipal District are open to providing campervan parking.

In their response to a motion put forward by Councillor Jim Ryan at last week’s sitting of Thurles Municipal District Council, the district says:

“Thurles Municipal District is open to the suggestion of providing designated public campervan parking bays in a suitable location in Thurles.

“lf the Elected Members are aware of potential locations, please forward same to us so that they can be investigated as to their viability. The District will need to ensure that any possible location does not impact on existing parking capacity.”

The Thurles District would not be the first, with the Clonmel Borough already providing facilities.

In his motion Cllr Ryan’s motion said:

“l am calling on this District Council to follow the example of Clonmel Borough in providing designated campervan parking bays in a suitable site in Thurles.”

Cllr Ryan said campervan parking presented a “huge opportunity for all-year-round business.”

He said he has spoken to campervan groups who say they would love to come to Thurles if there were basic facilities.

Although he didn't name anyone business, he said that there are retailers with space and suggested working with them.

Cllr Noel Coonan asked if the districts response applied to all towns, to which District Administrator Sharon Scully replied, “absolutely”
