Carrick-on-Suir’s St Nicholas Boxing Club ended its competitive season on a high note with two of its young stars winning All-Ireland titles at the National Junior Cadet Championships.

Rylee Finn was crowned All-Ireland Junior Cadet 40kg champion and Isabelle Hawkins became the All-Ireland Junior Cadet 60kg champion after winning their bouts in their finals  in the National Stadium in Dublin over the weekend of June 16 to 18.

Isabelle is now a three times All-Ireland boxing champion after winning two other national titles in 2022 and 2023 in the 55kg and 59kg weight classes.

Just a few days before her latest All-Ireland title win, Isabelle received a Carrick-on-Suir Municipal District Cathaoirleach’s award at a ceremony in Fethard.

She was nominated for the award by Carrick-on-Suir Fianna Fáil councillor Kieran Bourke and was presented with the award by Carrick MD Cathaoirleach Cllr David Dunne of Sinn Fein, who is also from her hometown.

Isabelle and Rylee’s national success came just a few weeks after St Nicholas Boxing Club’s end of season boxing tournament at the Parish Hall in Carrick-on-Suir on May 19.

Every boxer performed superbly in all 12 bouts with the Best Home Boxer award going to Johnny Phelan who secured a great win over a tough Taylor Gormley of Tramore.

Charlie Burke of Marble City BC picked up the Best Away Boxer award.

The tournament featured some of St Nicholas Boxing Club’s outstanding young boxers Isabelle Hawkins (Munster/Irish Champion), Aleksej Lazic (Munster/Irish Champion), Tom Kennedy (Munster Champion Irish Runner-Up) and Rylee Finn, who at that stage had a Munster championship title and Irish runner-up place under his belt.
