Commemorations took place in Carrick-on-Suir for 1916 Easter Rising's 110th anniversary

The 110th anniversary of the 1916 Easter Rising was commemorated earlier this month in Carrick-on-Suir with the laying of wreaths at the town's Garden of Remembrance and St Mary's and Friary cemeteries.
Wreaths were laid at the Garden of Remembrance, created at Parkside to mark the Rising's centenary, by Elaine Wall and Anne Marie Magorrian, a relative of republican socialist, trade unionist and suffragist Winifred Carney, who took part in the Rising.
Anne Marie recalls Winifred, who was her great grandaunt's daughter, was a Cumann na mBan member and James Connolly's secretary. She was among the last to leave the GOP with the injured Rising leader.
