Tipperary councillors raise concerns over town's proposed one-way traffic management plan

Concerns were raised at the March sitting of the district council

The new incoming one way traffic system being adopted in Nenagh town was discussed at the March meeting of Nenagh Municipal District, with Cllr Hughie McGrath requesting that a date be given to the public before the new system is implemented.

Cllr McGrath requested that the Council need to “work towards a date to give people” because the new road markings were confusing motorists in the town.

“It is very confusing and we don’t know how to explain it to people when they ask,” Cllr McGrath said.

Cllr McGrath also suggested that it would be useful for the Council to liase with local media and to the public via social media of the new system, and that there should be a traffic management in place for the first few days of its launch in order to help motorists.

Answering the question, District Senior Engineer Barry Murphy described the plan as a “major change” for Nenagh, and revealed that there was currently being a communication plan being drawn up and also told Councillors at the meeting that there were plans in place to have people “in situ around the town until things settle down and people get used to the system.”
