Tipperary TD Jackie Cahill has expressed his desire to see further road safety and enhancement works in the village of Ballycahill.

The Fianna Fáil TD said: “Living so close to the village of Ballycahill, I have been contacted by a considerable number of residents who have expressed their concerns in relation to road safety in the area.

“I have had numerous discussions with Tipperary County Council in relation to the need for enhanced road safety works in the centre of the village to make the area safer for both pedestrians and road users alike. I have received confirmation that resurfacing works will be carried out in the village later this year, but I would like to see further action taken along with this.

“I have proposed to the Council that a footpath should be installed from the shop down as far as the car park opposite the church. It is also my view that a raised crossing should be installed for children crossing from the school, and this would also act as a measure to slow passing traffic through Ballycahill.

“I would also hope that we would see other traffic calming measures being considered by the Council, such as curbing being used to slow traffic through the village.

“Road safety is on everyone’s minds at the moment, and rightly so, and I want to ensure that Tipperary County Council continue to make villages such as Ballycahill safer places for our pedestrians and road users.”
