The collection will be available to the people of Clonmel in the near future

In January  staff members from Tipperary County Council’s Libraries and Cultural team, including Executive Librarian, Clonmel Library Anne Marie Mullins, Acting Museum Curator, Julia Walsh Droha,n and Museum Collections and Documentation Officer Jayne Sutcliffe took into their care a number of objects from Clonmel Friary for safekeeping.

The library accepted a donation of over 100 titles from the Friar’s library collection. This collection is currently being catalogued and will be available to the people of Clonmel in the near future.

Among the titles secured are the Annals of the Four Masters. The Museum accepted several stones, some highly decorated with detailed carvings and water fonts.

Included in the donation was a water font originally from Old St. Mary’s Church which has now been returned to the Church.

Tipperary Libraries and Tipperary Museum are very grateful to the Friars for their generosity and to Consultant Archivist Donal Moore for his assistance.
