Community housing development for Fethard

Senator Garret Ahearn has announced that Fethard & District Day Care Centre CLG have received approval of €4.5million to provide 14 independent living units in the town of Fethard.

The funding was applied for through the Capital Assistance Scheme (CAS) which provides capital funding of up to 100% of project costs to be advanced by local authorities to Approved Housing Bodies to provide housing for specific categories of housing need, including for age friendly housing, for individuals or families who are homeless and for persons with a disability.

Fine Gael Senator Garret Ahearn said “The 14 ndependent living units will consist of 10 for the elderly and 4 for wheelchair users. Seven of the units will be located in the Convent while the other seven will be new builds.”

Senator Ahearn said “I would be very confident, as a not-for-profit community social enterprise, Fethard & District Day Care Centre CLG will increase their workforce to 12, having moved from 2.5 employees to 6 over the past 12 months.  This was achieved due to an increased HSE grant and income generated from hosting Ukrainian refugees”.

Fethard & District Day Care Centre will ensure the development is a pleasant mix of private and social residents and are planning on developing a larger day centre increasing the capacity to over 40 users from the current 22 and include an integrated sensory garden.

Senator Garret Ahearn concluded “This is a momentous day for all involved at Fethard & District Day Care Centre CLG and I want to complement the Board on their incredible work and commitment throughout the process to achieve this goal.  I look forward to the development of this exciting and much needed development for the community of Fethard”.
