Former councillor Noel Coonan has been appointed as the chairman of the new Local Community Safety Partnership (LCSP).

Mr Coonan has also served as the chairman of the Tipperary Joint Policing Committee (JPC).

Cathaoirleach of Tipperary County Council Cllr Declan Burgess congratulated Mr Coonan at a recent plenary meeting.

Cllr Burgess said that it was important for the new committee to have a leader who understands how community policing works and it’s value in the county.

“It’s good to know it will be chaired by someone who has been there abd who will work to make our county safer,” said Cllr Burgess.placeholder image

The new Local Community Safety Partnership will replace the Joint Policing Committee.

Announced in 2022, they aim to combat anti-social behaviour by creating a local safety plan.

Community services and stakeholders collaborate with gardaí and local representatives to create a plan tailored to their area.

The programme was piloted in Longford, Waterford and Dublin North Inner-city.

Their introduction and the abolition of the Tipperary Joint Policing Committee have been a subject of concern to elected representatives over the past year.
