Great sadness as a Tipperary golf club loses one of its original members

Sad passing of original club member
We can’t conclude the past week’s news without mentioning the very sad news of the passing of Bride O’Callaghan, one of our original members and one of the loveliest and most gracious people you could ever hope to meet.
Bride made everyone’s day a little brighter with her ready smile and quiet charm, and was loved by everyone who knew her. The world is a sadder place without her in it.
May she rest in peace.
Winter Blues Shake Off
We have finally managed to shake off the Winter Blues and face into a 2024 that promises to be the best ever, as Slievenamon readies itself to celebrate our 25th Anniversary. There is already much talk afoot of competitions and events to mark the occasion, and a palpable excitement of anticipation permeates the clubhouse.
South East Alliance win for Margot
Margot Condon of Slievenamon set the tone for the year as she triumphed in the South East Junior Alliance 12 Hole Stableford Competition which was held in Kilkenny on January 30.
Margot played fantastic golf, scoring 26 points in difficult conditions.
Nearest competitor was Catherine Hughes of Kilkenny on 25 points, with Margaret Rossiter of New Ross and Nora Flynn of West Waterford on 3rd and 4th with 23 points each, Mary Corcoran of Kilkenny 5th on 23 points and Mary O’Shea of Waterford on 22 points.
Captains’ Drive-In on Bank Holiday Monday
Local competitions were put on hold this past week as Paul Kenny nurtured and coaxed the greens into conditions that he deemed met his exacting standards in time for Captains Drive In on Bank Holiday Monday. While the conditions were a little windy to start, there was no dampening the enthusiasm at the Shot Gun start. Captain Mark Dillon and Lady Captain Paula Spillane led the field with great aplomb and high good humour, setting the tone for the day.
