Around 4,800 people are set to come to Thurles next weekend for the Liberty Music Festival.

The two-day sold-out festival, now in its second year, is to take place on Saturday, July 8 and Sunday, 9, in Thurles Town Park.

Festival Chairperson councillor Jim Ryan said they have built on last year’s success to bring a bigger and better festival to the town.

“It’s fantastic for Thurles. There is a buzz around town, and people are really looking forward to it,” said Cllr Ryan.

Cllr Ryan said that they are estimating the festival will bring a €600,000 boost to the local economy, with people staying and spending locally.

According to ticket sales, visitors will come from every county, Northern Ireland and the UK.

There will be 400 campervans taking advantage of the two special dedicated parks at the Thurles Rugby Club and Thurles Crokes. Acts are some of the best tribute bands from around Ireland and the UK.

On Saturday, Jason Highes and the IGB band (Garth Brooks), Guns Reloaded, Complete Madness, Waterloo, and Coldplace will take the stage. Playing on Sunday are Liam Murphy (Elvis), Dezperado (Eagles), Glorydays (Bruce Springsteen), Qween, and Spring Break.

“It’s a really good news story for Thurles,” said Cllr Ryan.

This year’s festival is sponsored by Tipperary County Council, Bulmers, KG Tape Tech LTD, McKevitts Costcutter, Lumatech, The Anner Hotel and Yangs Chinese Restaurant.
