Interesting line up of events planned for unique Tipperary festival in September

Applefest
Clonmel Applefest is still some months away, but two projects which will feature during the September festival are already well under way.
They are the annual book project which involves 10 community writers interviewing 10 local families to represent a sample of Clonmel society in 2025.
The stories will be compiled into a book with photographs by John D. Kelly in a similar vein to the Elders of Clonmel books featured in the past two years. In parallel to this, art workshops were held at which family members were invited to draw their own version of a family portrait under the guidance of expert arts facilitator Paul Bokslag.
PORTRAIT PROJECT
Paul’s specialty is the paper cutout technique which he adapted for the purpose of this project and 11 family groups took part in the family portrait project. These will be seen around town and in the festival’s graphics in the months to come.
GUEST LECTURE
Other events in the pipeline are a guest lecture by popular biologist and broadcaster Eanna ní Lamhna, cooking workshops with Antje Huth and Sinead Delahunty and a music residency by Stephen McGrath’s new band Sun Merchant, along with another very popular Storyslam, hosted by local sheepfarmer Joe Whelan.
There will also be an electronic Cabaret by the Burning Cave at Channon’s Forge, several walks, a Pecha Kucha (a popular Japanese form of presenting designer’s and artist’s works) and of course the hugely popular Harvest Fair on Kickham Plaza, featuring more exciting performances and craft activities.
COMMUNITY GROUPS
On that note, the festival in inviting community groups to take part in the festival, be it as performers or as exhibitors.
