Student Council - Comhairle na nOg
Last Thursday, three of our students from St. Mary's attended the Tipperary Youth Council AGM in Thurles, providing them with a valuable opportunity to engage in student voice and leadership. A big congratulations to our student council representatives David Moloney, Kimberley McCarthy O'Connell, and Ben Landers for their involvement and contribution to this important event.
Their participation is a testament to the strong leadership spirit fostered within our school community.
First Year Student Brunch and Retreat
In an effort to support first-year students as they transition into secondary school life, St Mary's recently hosted two delightful events, a Brunch and a Retreat, designed to build connections and foster a sense of community.
The brunch, held just before the mid-term break, was a fun-filled morning of team-building activities that helped students bond with their peers and develop important collaborative skills.
The day kicked off with an interactive brunch, where students enjoyed a delicious spread while participating in engaging team-building exercises. These activities encouraged cooperation, communication, and problem-solving, ensuring that the students not only got to know each other better but also started to form the lasting friendships that are vital for their school journey.
Following the brunch, after mid term break, students embarked on a retreat, led by experienced facilitators from anTobar Nua, an organisation specialising in personal development and leadership.
The retreat offered a unique opportunity for first-year students to reflect on their transition to secondary school, explore their strengths, and build resilience as they navigate the challenges of the academic year ahead.
Both the brunch and retreat are key components of our Transition to Secondary School Programme, which aims to provide incoming students with the skills, support, and confidence they need to thrive in their new environment.
These events were a wonderful way to welcome our first-year students into our school, and we look forward to watching them grow and succeed throughout the year.
