LIVE: Concern over future of business in Tipperary with potential loss of up to 20 jobs

This would be dreadful!
The future of the Mr. Price Discount Store in Tipperary Town is uncertain following a decision by An Bord Pleanála not to grant retention for a change of use of two units at Tipperary Town Retail Park on the Limerick Road.
Corajio trading as 'Mr. Price' had opened without planning permission and Tipperary County Council Planning office refused to grant retention permission last year.
The site is zoned as Light Industrial under the Tipperary Town and Environs Development Plan which explicitly rules out shops and supermarkets.
Corajio appealed the decision not to grant retention to An Bord Pleanála in 2023, which led to the most recent final decision. In their appeal Corajio argued that the proposed use is justified rather than leaving the site vacant.
They also said that having Mr Price trading there, has prevented leakage out of Tipperary Town to other towns, by offering a wider range of retail opportunities and providing a renewed interest in the site.
Under the land use zoning rules, a shop and supermarket are explicitly not permitted on this land use zone.
The company says a suitable sized property that could facilitate Heavy Goods Vehicles delivering stock to Mr. Price is not available in the town and the closure would mean a loss of over 20 jobs from the store.
