Local praise for long-awaited footpath plan in Thurles

The new footpath will run from Dun Muileann to the bridge at Ladyswell
Thurles councillor Jim Ryan has welcomed the plans for a new footpath along the Mill Road.
His comments come as Tipperary County Council release details of the plan on their consultations portal.
Cllr Ryan said on social media that was "thrilled" to see the plans released.
"This is great news and is so badly needed as the Mill Road is so dangerous for pedestrians due to the speed of traffic along it.
"I have been fighting for this for years, so I am naturally delighted that at long last a new footpath will be in place hopefully by early 2025," said Cllr Ryan.
Cllr Ryan has said he can confirm that the new footpath will run from the existing footpath along the front of the Dun Muileann housing estate as far as the bridge at Ladyswell.
If full planning permission is granted later in the year, the plan is to start work shortly after, according to the councillor.
Thurles Gaels GAA also welcomed the announcement saying:
"This is much needed for the safety of all our club members, neighbours friends and motorists on the Mill Road. Great to finally see some progress well done to all involved!!"
The development also includes the installation of the 950 metres of 1.8-metre wide concrete pedestrian footpath, localised drainage and gullies and new boundary treatments and new native hedging at sections on the route.
The council also plan to to install information signage opposite the garden centre on the Mill Rd and landscaping.
The public is invited to make a submission, if they wish no later than 4.30pm on Friday, September 6 2024.
The plans are on display at the Civic Offices, Castle Avenue, Thurles until August 8, 2024.
