Mentoring programme in full swing at this Tipperary school

We are thrilled to announce that our mentoring program is now in full swing at Newport College, where our Transition Year students are actively engaged in supporting their groups of first-year students.

The primary goal of our mentoring program is to assist our first-year students in adjusting to secondary school life, helping them make a smooth transition from primary school and providing them with a peer they can turn to for guidance as they navigate the daily routines of our school.

Every week, our Transition Year students meet with their respective first-year groups. During their initial sessions, they engage in friendly conversations and use a 'get to know you' quiz to facilitate getting to know each other.

Subsequently, they work on team-building activities, such as the challenge of constructing the tallest freestanding structure within their groups. Throughout the academic year, we will have a series of themed activities planned, including events for Halloween and Christmas.

We have seen the positive impacts of this mentoring program on both first-year students as well as for our Transition Year students as they embrace this extraordinary opportunity to mentor and develop their leadership skills. We believe this initiative fosters positive relationships throughout our entire school community.
