Thurles Municipal District Council

Thurles Municipal District Council has written to the owner of the Munster Hotel car park to query whether it will be open in October.

At this week’s sitting of the district council, councillor Jim Ryan asked if the administrator could confirm that the car park was due to close.

He said this would be problematic as the town park car park would also be closed at the same time and asked if negotiations had started between the owner and the council.

“We can’t have both closed,” said Cllr Ryan.

District Engineer Thomas Duffy said negotiations would not take place until October when the council’s lease for the car park expires.

The council currently have a six-month lease which started in May, to use the privately owned car park.

“Negotiations will take place in due course,” said Mr Duffy.

District Administrator Sharon Scully said that she too had heard the rumour and reached out to the owner.

She has yet to receive a response.

The car park at the town park is to close from August 6 until December to facilitate construction works.
