Mountains overlooking Tipperary host a cherished tradition of Holy Year Cross Mass

Annual Bank Holiday Mass
A great crowd enjoyed the Annual Bank Holiday Mass on the Holy Year Cross in Clonmel on Monday.
The much cherished tradition was marked by a fantastic turnout.
Among those taking part were Cllr Richie Molloy and Jimmy Ryan.
"A lovely morning at the Holy Year Cross this morning and great to meet Jimmy Ryan on his White Horse ( former principal of St Mary’s). It felt a bit like Tir Na Og," said Cllr Molloy.
The annual Mass at the Holy Year Cross took place at 11am.
The original cross was erected to celebrate the Holy Year in 1950. Since then a Mass has been celebrated on the site at Cnoc a Chomortais, or Scrouthea Hill, on each August Bank Holiday Monday.
For the last 75 years, the cross and the area surrounding it has been maintained by a dedicated voluntary committee based at the Old Bridge.
The Mass is attended by the Mayor, or Deputy Mayor, and members of Clonmel Borough District; and hundreds of people from the town and surrounding area, as well as visitors to the area.
