Moycarkey Borris crowned U15B football champions

Mid Tipperary U15B Football Championship Final
Moycarkey Borris 6-7
Upperchurch Drombane 1-4
By Ronan Loughnane
Four goals in the opening half paved the way for a comfortable Moycarkey victory as they saw off the Upperchurch Drombane challenge at Templemore on Monday evening. The signs were ominous right from the off as time and again the victors found acres of space in the ‘Church defence.
The Black and Amber did find the opening score through Shane Lee but Moycarkey responded in style when wing forward Adam Rice goaled in the fifth minute. Paddy Ryan replied with a fine point from play before Sean Lanphier grabbed a second major for Moycarkey in the eighth minute.
The same player followed up with a point before Ryan was brought down for a penalty which he converted himself. He quickly added a point from a free to bring the ‘Church back into the contest at 2-1 to 1-3 after the opening quarter.
That was as good as it got for Upperchurch however as Moycarkey dominated the second quarter to double their tally thanks to goals from Conor Doherty (pen) and another from Lanphier. Doherty added a pointed free to leave Moycarkey 4-2 to 1-3 ahead at the short whistle.
One would have expected an Upperchurch rally after the break but it never materialised as the game totally petered out as a contest. Lanphier, Doherty, and Conor Walsh all added points before two goals in two minutes from Darragh Lonergan and Doherty left Moycarkey 6-5 to 1-3 ahead at the three-quarter stage.
They were reduced to 14 men in the 53rd minute when midfielder MJ O’Mahony received a second yellow but it mattered little as the game was well over by then. Shane Lee landed the ‘Church’s only score of the second half with a point in the 55th minute before two points from Lanphier closed the scoring on a very satisfactory night for Moycarkey.
The winners will be pleased with their performance with Thomas Leahy, Sean Lanphier, Conor Doherty, Cillian Alexander, Evan Ned Cummins, and Adam Rice all to the fore. Despite a promising opening quarter, Upperchurch will be disappointed with their performance thereafter.
They lacked nothing in effort but had little penetration in the forward line. Paddy Ryan was their best performer and he was ably assisted by John Quinlan, Paidi Ryan, Paul Brett, and Shane Lee.
