Nenagh Ormond claim brilliant win against Shannon to claim North Munster Charity Cup

North Munster Sporting Limerick Charity Cup Final

Nenagh Ormond 52

Shannon RFC 14

Nenagh Ormond claimed just their second senior trophy last night after a comprehensive dismantling of an under-strength Shannon RFC team in the final of the North Munster Charity Cup Final, played in New Ormond Park.

The Tipperary team scored seven tries in the game, with four of those coming from the outstanding figure of Conor McMahon, while Nicky Irwin, Kevin O'Flaherty and Patrick Scully also dotted down in what was a complete domination for the Nenagh team.

Shannon came into the game after preserving their Division 1A status with a big win over Highfield the previous weekend in the Division 1A promotion/relegation final, and played a number of their fringe players in the game as a result.

But Nenagh Ormond kept to their task regardless and in all honesty, could have had far more points on the board come the final whistle, leaving numerous tries behind them throughout the game, particularly in the second half.

Nenagh took control of the game in the first half, with tries from Kevin O'Flaherty, Nicky Irwin and Patrick Scully putting them in a strong half time position, leading Shannon 24-7 at the break with the Shannon try coming through Luke Moylan.

Conor O'Brien was giving a masterclass with the boot in the first half with three conversions and a penalty slotted, and with the game only going in one direction in the second half, Nenagh put the points on the scoreboard to reflect their dominance with four Conor McMahon tries (all converted) meant Ormond coasted to the final whistle to claim their second Charity Cup title - their first since 2018.
