'It makes no sense,' says Cllr Niall Dennehy

A new bus stop that has been provided near the roundabout at The Poppyfield retail park in Clonmel, on the left-hand side of the road leaving town, is “a traffic hazard” and isn’t needed.

That’s according to Cllr Niall Dennehy.

The town’s highly successful bus service’s CL1 route terminates and originates outside of the Talbot Hotel at The Poppyfield, he told a meeting of Clonmel Borough Distrct.

However, straight across the road another bus stop had been installed, “less than ten seconds away from where passengers disembark.

“It makes no sense,” he stated.

He was aware of two accidents that had happened in the area in recent weeks.

He couldn’t say that the new bus stop was attributable to those accidents, but they had happened in the same area.

A spokesperson for Tipperary County Council’s engineering department said there had been consultation between TFI (Transport for Ireland) and the council, and the bus stop had been subject to a road safety audit.
