Three palliative care beds will be included within the new unit in Clonmel

Three palliative care beds will be provided within the new St Anthony’s Community Nursing Unit in Clonmel, which is currently under construction at Glenconnor Road.

This was stated by Geraldine Sutton, the HSE’s Interim Head of Service, Older Person Services IHA, for Carlow/Kilkenny and South Tipperary, in response to a query by Deputy Michael Murphy on the status of the new community nursing unit in Clonmel.

Ms Sutton said it is anticipated that it will be the third quarter of the year by the time the unit is completed.

“However, this is an estimate based on current progress and is subject to change. The handover date and progress on registration is dependent on completion.

“I can confirm that recruitment of posts, where there are not panels in place, is due to commence within the next month.

"The proposed transfer date of the residents from the existing build to the new build is contingent on a completion date,” she added.
