New entrance linking two Thurles car parks to increase off-street parking in the town

The work is due to start in the third quarter of this year but is subject to funding
Councillors in Thurles have approved a plan for a new entrance to the Slievenamon car park from Emmett Street.
At a recent sitting of the Thurles-Templemore Municipal District Council, elected representatives were presented with the Chief Executive’s report.
The report says the development will increase off-street parking in the town and improve safety at the entrance to the Emmett Street car park.
The work is due to start in the third quarter of this year but is subject to funding.
The report was proposed by councillor Sean Ryan and seconded by Cllr Jim Ryan.
The work will include the removal of the Bank of Ireland car park entrance wing walls onto Emmett Street and the provision of a new setback boundary wall.
The council intends to remove a section of the stone wall between the bank and the Slievenamon Road car park.
Works also include the installation of footpaths, public lighting, signage resurfacing and lining.
Public consultation closed in May and the council recieved no submissions.
