What a woman!

After 42 years' service as Church sacristan in Solohead, Mrs Nuala Perry of Ballyran, Sologhead, carried out her final Church duties on Saturday night, July 13 at the 6:30pm Mass at St Nicholas' Church.

Fr John Morris, PP, paid fulsome tribute to Nuala on the occasion of her retirement and thanked her for her service over the 42 years, remembering her late husband Jim, who was a constant support to her through those years.

Sadly Jim passed away on the 8th of June, 2022, and despite the loss of her beloved husband, Nuala continued to serve the needs of the parish community for the weekly Masses and for all the major life events.

It was fitting that Nuala would be honoured by the community that had looked after their needs with such dedication over in excess of 4 decades.

Family members and friends gathered at the Mass to wish Nuala well in her retirement and celebrations continued afterwards at Monard Community Hall, who had the pleasure to host her retirement party.

The community hall members said that it was a great honour for them to host the event after Nuala's 42 years of devoted service as sacristan at St Nicholas' Church, Sologhead.

"Nuala's quiet dedication has marked countless significant moments in our lives; from christenings to weddings, in times of loss and so much more. Her tireless commitment to the Church and the wider community has been an inspiration.

"As Nuala embarks on her well-deserved retirement, we extend our heartfelt gratitude for everything she has done. Thank you, Nuala. We wish you a long and happy retirement," said a spokesperson.

I have attended many occasions over the years in the Perry family home and I have always had such admiration and love for Nuala and her late husband, Jim.

They have been the epitome of what community service is all about and they deserve our sincere thanks and appreciation for their many good works.

We join with the parish community in wishing Nuala a long and happy retirement.
