Number of reports from Tipperary motorists of 'near misses with deer'

Have you seen them?
Tipperary Sinn Féin TD Martin Browne and Sinn Fein representative for Clonmel Dean McGrath have urged motorists to exercise additional caution due to the dangers posed by deer crossing certain stretches of road.
Deputy Browne said: “We’ve been informed of a number of reports from motorists of near misses with deer on the Wood Road (R655) which links Clonmel to Knocklofty crossing from Kilnamack Wood to the banks of the River Suir.
“Similar reports have been made in the Russellstown and Kilmacomma areas approaching Clonmel from Ballymacarbry on the R671.
“It goes without saying that wild deer crossings can catch motorists unaware and pose a significant danger as a result.
Mr McGrath said: “For these reasons we are highlighting this danger and urge all motorists travelling these stretches of road to be cautious and ready for the unexpected.
“We have also made Tipperary and Waterford County Councils aware of the problem and have asked them to consider installing further signage where appropriate on these routes to advise motorists of these animals present in the area.”
