Powerstown/Lisronagh Comhaltas branch is honoured to host County Fleadh

The main events of the County Fleadh are of course, the Fleadh competitions that take place on the 17 and 18 May in the Gaelcholáiste in Clonmel from 10am to 6pm on both days.

These competitions are open to the public and are certainly well worth attending.

Cost of entry for an adult is €6 per day and for a child €4 for the weekend.

This is a very high standard of music, dance and singing in county Tipperary, with many of the competitors reaching the All Ireland Fleadh and coming home with All Ireland trophies and medals.

The competitions on both Saturday and Sunday include solo, ceol beirte (duets) and ceol trír ( trios) across a variety of instruments, such as fiddle, banjo, concertina, button accordion, harp, mandolin and bodhrán. 8 Hand ceili ladies and mixed, 4 hand ceilí ladies and mixed are a sample of the dancing that can be enjoyed on Saturday 17 in the halla in the Gaelcholáiste.

Ceilí bands and grúpa cheoil take place on Sunday 18, also in the halla in the Gaelcholáiste.

English and Irish singing in both men and women is a very enjoyable competition to view. In addition, storytelling and comhrá competitions are part of the full competition programme.

PROGRAMME

Details of all the competitions will be published in the comprehensive Fleadh programme which will be available for sale before and during the competitions.

Thanks to the very generous sponsorship of businesses, shops and pubs the weekend of the Fleadh will see tunes flowing on the streets of Clonmel, on the Plaza from 1-4pm on Saturday and Sunday and at the Main Guard on Saturday from 1-4pm.

There will also be a session trail in pubs from 3pm til late! Details of the Fleadh week sessions and weekend sessions were published in recent weeks in The Nationalist.

They can also be viewed on the branch Facebook page and Instragram pages.

The financial support from Tipperary County Council and Clonmel Borough District (CBD) is ensuring that the County Tipperary Fleadh is taking place in Clonmel this year so huge thanks and acknowledgement for their sponsorship and support.

Thanks to CBD the Main Guard will come alive on Saturday evening from 8pm with special guests Ruaile Buaile taking to the stage.

A night of ceol agus criac not to be missed.
