Wow!

The 31 kilometre crossing of the entire Galtee Mountain range is the challenge facing three members of Cashel Lions Club on Saturday, September 23.

Willie Fahey, DJ Horan and Eddie Morrissey have ‘volunteered’ to take on the Galtee Mountains End To End Challenge as this year’s major annual fundraiser for Cashel Lions Club.

This year’s challenge will be the longest of the four challenges taken on by the ‘three mountaineers’ since these hill walking challenges started in September 2020.

The Galtee Mountains End to End Challenge will start near Anglesborough in Co. Limerick and will see the three Lions head east along the Galtee ridge before they descend to the Tipperary Road, just outside Cahir.

The thirty one kilometre trek will require Willie, DJ and Eddie to climb all the highest peaks in the Galtee Mountains including Galtee Mór (919 metres), Galtybeg (799m), Lyracappul (825m), Carrignabinnia (822m) and Greenane (802m) and many more.

They will also encounter a variety of mountainous terrain including steep rocky areas, peat hags, puddly banks and a range of mountain tracks and trails.

The Galtee Mountains End to End Challenge is the major annual fundraiser for Cashel Lions Club.

All funds raised will be used to support the wide range of community service projects run by Cashel Lions Club, which include, third level college bursaries, senior citizens party, Christmas food vouchers, senior citizens holiday, and providing assistance to families who experience financial difficulties during the year.

SUPPORTING CASHEL DAY CARE CENTRE

This year, Cashel Lions Club will provide financial support to the Cashel Day Care Centre for the purchase of a bus which will have wheelchair access.

This will be of enormous assistance to the Day Care Centre in enhancing and extending the vitally important service it provides to our local community.

In addition to providing support to the Cashel Day Care Centre, Cashel Lions Club is also supporting a number of projects being organised by Cashel Tidy Towns which will also enhance the outstanding community service provided by the volunteers in the Cashel Tidy Towns group.

All money raised by the Galtee Mountains End to End Challenge will be used by Cashel Lions Club to enhance the quality of life for the people of Cashel and neighbouring parishes.

Cashel Lions club is asking individuals and businesses to sponsor the challenge or make a donation to the challenge fund.

There are a number of ways for people to support this year’s challenge.

These include, an online donation page, www.idonate.ie/cashellionsgalteeendtoend challenge, a street collection on Friday September 22, a challenge barrel in Affinity Credit Union, Cashel.

Each member of Cashel Lions Club also has sponsorship cards and will appreciate sponsorship for the Galtee Mountains End to End Challenge.

Cashel Lions Club is appealing to the local community and all friends of Cashel Lions Club to be generous in their support for The Galtee Mountains End to End Challenge.
