PICTURE: School teacher leaves Tipperary school after over 30 years of service

John Stokes left Thurles CBS this week
Yesterday, the CBS Thurles Student Council made a presentation to Mr John Stokes for his dedication to the school, in particular in hurling, since 1992.
In a school that is top of the roll of honour for hurling in Dean Ryan Munster U17, Corn Uí Dhudda Munster U15 and Rice Cup U14, the school says John is the person who has given most to school hurling in their long history.
The school says he is generally regarded by most pupils and past pupils as one of the most popular teachers in the school.
Daniel Murphy from the Student Council in Sixth Year presented John with a jersey signed by all Sixth Year students, with the number on the jersey signifying John's standing amongst the students.
John and principal Mr O'Donnell spoke to the school community, and everyone gave John an incredible applause that was fitting of the man.
John was given a guard of honour leaving the astroturf that he has manned at every lunchtime for a number of years, and the students all shook his hand to thank him.
On behalf of all students and past pupils since 1992, the school wishes to say thank you to the Thurles CBS legend that is John Stokes.
