Well done to two budding politicians and policy makers of the future, Thurles Ursuline Secondary School Transition Year students Cáit and Katherese, who attended the European Youth Forum in Cork over mid-term break.

The three-day European Youth Parliament took place in UCC and other venues around the city.

Students split into smaller groups of delegates with Cáit on the AFCO1 committee dealing with constitutional affairs and Katherese on the ECON committee looking at economic affairs.

Delegates worked on identifying issues and coming up with possible viable solutions.

Open rounds of debates gave delegates the chance to ask questions, suggest improvements, point out potential pitfalls or commend committees on their work. Voting to either pass or reject resolutions took place after a robust exchange of ideas.

It was a golden opportunity to see and experience democracy and politics in action.

Well done to Cait and Katherese on their fine work.
