A huge crowd turned out to watch this years 27th annual Saint Patrick’s Day parade in Littleton on Monday morning.
This year the committee selected local woman Mrs Margaret Shannahan as Grand Marshal. According to parade chairman Cllr Sean Ryan Margaret was selected because of ‘notable work in the community with the Muintir na Tire hall, the local bingo and the ICA. She is also a great supporter of the GAA in particular of of her grandson Tipperary goalkeeper Rhys Shelly’.
A minute's silence was held before the parade to remember Stephen & John Lee who died tragically in a fire before Christmas.
Brennan's pub in Glengoole won Best Overall with their reenactment of Ernest Shackleton's expedition to the Antarctic. Best parish was Moycarkey NS while Best Juvenile was Littleton NS while there were also wins for Fonnie Skelly with his depiction of Greengrass from Heartbeat, Clonoulty Rosssmore Vintage and Killough community Group. There were runner up prizes for Thurles lions with a fantastic depiction of a massive Lion, Coolmoyne vintage, Moycarkey Borris GAA, Moycarkey Coolcroo AC and local business Greenway Solar.
A committee special prize known as the Pat Houlihan Award will be decided in the coming weeks. Cllr Ryan on behalf of all the committee "thanked all the parade sponsors and all the participants for all their hard work".
