On Monday, we held our annual Fun Run and what a glorious day we had for it. Having had to postpone it before Easter due to the poor weather we were blessed with the day today. The Fun Run is a major fundraiser in our school each year to help cover some of the huge costs involved with running extra-curricular activities in the school, but the day itself is about the school community taking a break from school life and enjoying the walk. All class groups walk from the school up the Jimmy Doyle Road and up to the Thurles Racecourse. The walk was eight kilometres in total. Students and teachers get lots of opportunities to talk and relax on the route. At the racecourse, any student who wants to compete in a race can enter it. The race is 2.2 kilometres around the ambulance track, which is a fair tough test for anyone. Boys who didn’t want to compete in the race walked the circuit, taking in the beautiful views of the Devil's Bit. Bottles of water and bananas were given out to all students after their lap of the track. Mr Maher and Mr O’Donnell spoke to the boys and thanked them for their wonderful efforts collecting money again this year. Both men were very complimentary of the boy’s behaviour on the day. The Thurles Order of Malta were present to assist on the day thanks to Pierce and Denis as always. A huge thank you to the Moloney family and the staff of the Racecourse for facilitating the Fun Run each year. It makes the event so special and safe catering for the huge numbers involved. Special mention must go to Mr O’Donnell, who led by example, joining the boys in the senior race and flew around the track. On the day, the race winners were first-year Race, Sean Sheehan, second-year Race Sean Og Hayes, third-year Race Fabian Jarzebinski, fourth-year Race Jack O Keeffe and sixth-year Race Mikey Carroll.
