Public's views sought on Tipperary County Council's draft five-year Climate Action Plan

The draft plan is available to view on the council's website and inspect in council offices

Tipperary County Council is inviting the public to give their views on its five year climate action plan that proposes 100 practical measures to combat climate change.

The council's Draft Local Authority Climate Action Plan for 2024-2029 went on public display and was published on the council's website today Thursday, September 21 and will remain on public view until Monday, November 6.

Members of the public and interested groups and bodies are invited to make submissions or observations on the draft plan, which was presented at the September meeting of the council's elected members.

The Draft LACAP sets out how Tipperary County Council can incorporate and promote a range of mitigation, adaptation and other climate action measures in the delivery of its services.

The plan aims to support the Government’s National Climate Objective to achieve, by the end of 2050, a transition to a climate resilient, biodiversity rich, environmentally sustainable and climate neutral economy.

Tipperary County Council Cathaoirleach Cllr Ger Darcy said the Draft LACAP is a positive development for all of us in the county.

“It addresses a range of important matters such as biodiversity, education and learning, the bio-economy, energy efficiency, sustainable transport patterns and technologies and co-benefits as a result of climate action,” he said.

The Council's Environment & Climate Action Services Director Eamon Lonergan said the draft plan sets out 100 “ambitious, but practical actions” to be delivered by the County Council working with lots of stakeholders between 2024 to 2029.

“The Draft LACAP and the actions set out are now for consideration by all, and I encourage everyone to get involved and have your say in our collective response to climate change,” he added.

Full details of the Draft LACAP and associated documents, and also how you can make a submission are available to view on the Tipperary County Council website.

The draft plan and documents are available to inspect in Tipperary County Council offices in Clonmel, Carrick-on-Suir and Tipperary Town. The deadline for making submissions is 4pm on Monday, November 6

Tipperary County Council's website also gives information on where public information events about the draft plan will be held around the county during October. Submissions received will be considered before the final LACAP will be adopted by the elected members of Tipperary County Council in February 2004.
