Rachael Blackmore wins the opener at Cheltenham on board Slade Steel

Slade Steel with Tipperary jockey Rachael Blackmore onboard won the Supreme Novices Hurdle in style. Trained by Henry de Bromhead, the 7-2 outsider made a burst and travelled through the middle of the field before going for glory on the turn for honours.

In real style Slade Steel won the Sky Bet Supreme Novices' Hurdle as the crowds were glued to the action, the first race of the 2024 Cheltenham Festival.

Mystical Power challenged hard before the end but ended up in second, while Firefox came third.
