Great news!

We’re delighted to announce this week that the Tipperary Star has expanded its team with Stephen Gleeson joining as a Multimedia Journalist.

Stephen is a Sports Journalist with a high profile in Tipperary.

He has extensive writing and broadcasting experience.

He is also a seasoned commentator who has covered hurling and Gaelic football games, as well as Ladies Football, camogie, soccer and rugby games.

Over the years, he has reported on the big sporting events from County Finals to Munster and All-Ireland Finals, at both club and county level.

Sport is his passion and in 2021 his first book was published by Hero Books, with the title: Tipperary Game of My Life.

The book charts the standout game for Tipperary hurlers across the last 70 years.

It includes contributions from Jimmy Finn, Pat Fox, Babs Keating, Eoin Kelly and the current Tipperary senior hurling captain Noel McGrath.

Stephen has worked with Tipp FM and Off The Ball on Newstalk in the last number of years as well as being at the forefront of streaming live games since 2020 with the advent of Tipp GAA TV and Munster GAA TV.

He is also involved in many local sporting and community-based groups within the county.

The Tipperary-based journalist hails from Upperchurch and played hurling for many years.

He says he is enthusiastic about covering all the news and sport across the Premier County: “I’m really looking forward to my new role with the Tipperary Star and online too with tipperarylive.ie. As far back as I can remember the Tipp Star has been the paper of note across the heartlands of the county. It’s a privilege to write for such a recognisable and pivotal newspaper as the Tipperary Star which is a paper that has stood the test of time. I’m also eager to contribute with videos and interviews to tipperarylive.ie; an online platform that is growing all the time. It’s an exciting challenge and I’m looking forward to getting out and about, bringing the stories from across the county to the readers,” Stephen said.

Regional Editor, Darren Hassett, said: “Stephen is huge addition to the paper from a news and sport perspective and we’re all really looking forward to working with him.”
