Road safety concerns raised over a number of Tipperary town locations

A request for work to be undertaken in a number of allocations in the Tipperary Town area concerning improving road safety has been made.
The request for works to be carried out was made at a meeting of Tipperary/Cahir/Cashel Municipal District.
Cllr Annemarie Ryan called for speed ramps to be provided along Station Road in Tipperary Town, between Bridge Street and the roundabout, in an effort to reduce speed on that stretch of road.
Cllr Ryan was told by officials that speeding and the enforcement of the speed limits was a matter for An Garda Síochána.
Officials also informed her that a speed survey would be carried out at this location. The surveywould be analysed and a design completed in line with the Councils Traffic Calming Policy if speeding was identified.
Following this the location would be submitted for funding under the Low Cost Safety Scheme if traffic calming measures were required.
SPEED SURVEY
“We will wait to see what the speed survey produces. People tend to forget that they are in a built-up residential area,” said Cllr Ryan.
Cllr Michael Fitzgerald called for measures to be carried out to improve safety at the entrance of Cluain Arra Housing Estate, Bansha onto the N24.
Cllr Fitzgerald said the problems were caused by motorists having to come out too far to get a good view.
He felt that the design of the kerbing in place at the location could be looked at.
Cllr Tony Black raised a traffic issue in the Avondale Crescent area of Tipperary Town.
SLOW ZONE SIGHS
He called on the council to install Slow Zone signs in2 Avondale Crescent.
“Not only is this a residential area but it has a nursing home in the estate. This leads to a high level of non-residential traffic. To prioritise the safety of elderly residents and local children I would urge that Slow Zone signs be placed in the estate,” he said.
Cllr Black also called for the council to consider replacing the existing footpaths in James Connolly Park in Tipperary Town
“They footpaths are in a state of disrepair in certain parts of the estate,” said Cllr Black.
He was informed by officials that footpath replacement works were on-going in James Connolly Park at present.
Cllr Black asked if all of James Connolly Park would be done.
James Swords, Town Engineer said it would be done section by section. “Some sections are not too bad,” he said.
